Who is the course useful for?

This course is suitable for people who are responsible for caring for others, whether adults or children, who may have serious allergies.

ALL staff should be aware of the possibility of a serious allergic reaction occurring and know what action to take if such an emergency does occur. It is important to understand that any member of staff at any time might be with a person who is experiencing a serious allergic reaction, and all staff need to be able to act appropriately, not wait for “someone else” to deal with the situation.

Why the course is important

The most serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) usually begins within minutes and can be life-threatening. The more staff that are allergy aware, understand the importance of allergen avoidance, know the signs of an allergic reaction and what to do in an emergency, the safer everyone with allergies in the care setting will be.
