Tanya will be taking on the iconic TCS London Marathon 2024 for Anaphylaxis UK on Sunday 21 April. Running has become Tanya’s space to process her grief following the death of her 17 year old daughter, Alexandra, from anaphylaxis.
On 31st May 2021, Tanya’s 17 year old daughter, Alexandra, died during a routine operation after suffering anaphylaxis to one of the anaesthetic medicines used. Alexandra had no known allergies prior to this.
For Tanya and her family, it is vital to raise awareness of anaphylaxis occurring due to medicines used during anaesthesia (called preri-operative anaphylaxis) and to research the causes behind this rare but devastating condition, to understand it better and try to eradicate the risk of it happening to others. Running the iconic 2024 TCS London Marathon for Anaphylaxis UK is the beginning of their mission to help others.
There was a time soon after Alexandra’s death that Tanya didn’t want to leave the house, and she gave up running altogether. With the support of good friends, Tanya got her trainers back on and running soon became a space for Tanya to process her grief and reflect. The friends ran together and at Tanya’s pace, and they often laughed and cried when out and about, thinking of Alexandra and sharing memories.
“Alexandra was a wonderful daughter, a ray of sunshine to all she met. Her death has shattered our lives and running has become my space to process my grief, allowing me time to think about her. I run with Alexandra in my heart and Anaphylaxis UK as my motivation.”
