Avid runner and allergy dad Luke Taylor completed the ultra marathon from Sheffield to Nottingham, covering a distance of 35 miles in just over seven hours, in aid of Anaphylaxis UK.
On Saturday 3 June, Luke embarked on this incredible journey, accompanied by his cousin Susan and supported by friend James and brother Rob for the final miles, making it a memorable experience filled with determination and solidarity.
Luke’s motivation to support Anaphylaxis UK was deeply personal. His son, James, was diagnosed with a serious peanut and tree nut allergy aged eight months, which significantly impacted family life.
Speaking about his experience, Luke said:
“Anaphylaxis UK has been an invaluable source of information, support, and advocacy throughout our journey. They have provided us with crucial resources, helped us understand the condition better, and empowered us to manage James’ allergies confidently.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Anaphylaxis UK for their incredible work. The organisation’s dedication to improving allergy care and ensuring access to life-saving medication significantly impacts the lives of individuals and families affected by serious allergies. I also want to thank my family, friends, and all the generous donors who believed in my cause and supported me throughout my journey.”
On his decision to run an ultra marathon, Luke added:
“I chose to participate in this ultra marathon because it presented a significant personal challenge while offering an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for a cause that means a lot to me. I wanted to push myself beyond my limits and demonstrate that we can achieve extraordinary things with determination.
“It was an incredible experience to run the ultra marathon, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Anaphylaxis UK. I had a fantastic day and have been resting well to recover.”
The Ultra Marathon proved to be a resounding success not only in terms of personal accomplishment but also in fundraising efforts. Luke, with the generous support of friends, family, and donors, raised an impressive total of £1,442.81. The funds will go directly towards supporting Anaphylaxis UK’s mission to provide crucial support and advocacy for individuals and families affected by serious allergies.
