A big thank you to all our business members who joined us at our recent Business Forum on 24th March at ZSL London Zoo.

Our forums centre around current issues impacting the food industry in relation to allergens, including recent events, updated guidance, and industry challenges. They aim to bring together professionals from across the UK to collaborate on solutions with the safety of consumers at the heart of the solution.

This month’s forum highlighted the recent garlic powder incident. You can read the allergy alerts here. As part of the discussion, the Food Standards Agency’s information was reiterated and guidance around Precautionary Allergen Labelling was empathised. The discussion concluded with a reminder of the importance of collaboration between businesses to enhance safety measures for individuals with serious allergies.

Additional topics included an analysis of the root causes of allergy-related incidents in food service settings, as well as a case study examining a real-life anaphylaxis incident.

Chief Executive Simon Williams also gave an overview of our charity’s new AllergyWise® Improvement Programme, developed in partnership with SFS and Serve Legal. This initiative aims to review and strengthen allergen management protocols within businesses.
