As 2024 draws to a close, we are proud to be celebrating the continued success of our groundbreaking AllergyWise® training programme.
AllergyWise® has evolved into one of the UK’s leading anaphylaxis training courses for schools, healthcare settings, and workplaces, reaching thousands of staff and individuals across the country.
Our courses are managed by our Education and Allergywise® Training Manager, Tracey Dunn, whose expertise as a former headteacher and mother to two teenagers with serious allergies has been instrumental in shaping and delivering our training. This year, AllergyWise® has taken a giant leap forward, helping even more organisations manage the increasing demand for allergy awareness. Almost half of students returned from previous years to refresh their allergy knowledge, reaffirming the value and ongoing relevance of our training.
We also saw the introduction of two new courses; AllergyWise® for Wraparound Care and Holiday Clubs and AllergyWise® for Clubs and Youth Organisations, tailored to settings where children spend time outside of school hours. As well as lessons specific to those settings, the courses contain our core information including causes of an allergic reaction, how to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, and how to use adrenaline auto-injectors.
In addition to courses, Tracey has been working in schools, leading face-to-face training for staff, assemblies and workshops for students and awareness sessions for parents and PTA members. Tracey brings her knowledge of leading schools and teaching children to these sessions ensuring that staff can practically implement solutions for greater and more robust allergy practice. If you would like to find out more about these face-to-face opportunities, please contact us.
Tracey explains, “The key to keeping students with allergies fully included and safe in schools is a widespread knowledge of allergy management throughout the school team. Our AllergyWise® courses are designed to enable staff to have the knowledge and tools they need to prevent reactions and keep people safe.”
Proven impact
AllergyWise® courses have undergone a series of updates to keep pace with the evolving needs of schools and businesses. The courses now have CPD certification, meaning employees can be assured that the training meets the highest standards of professional development.
Developed by educators and allergy consultants, the courses are designed to equip staff with the knowledge and confidence to implement a whole organisation approach to managing allergies. From emergency response protocols to day-to-day strategies, AllergyWise® delivers everything organisations need to create a safe and supportive environment.
Our courses come with additional resources that help communicate awareness throughout the organisation. There are comprehensive resource packs for primary and secondary schools, which provide ready-to-use lesson plans to teach children about allergies in a fun and engaging way.
Feedback from one AllergyWise® user said:
“This was one of the clearest and most helpful online training courses I have ever completed. I found the scenarios particularly useful as they were realistic and focused on what could have been done differently. Thank you very much for this brilliant resource.”
Celebrating excellence
Our AllergyWise® School Award recognises schools that go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of students with allergies. The criteria include implementing comprehensive allergy policies, providing staff training, and creating a culture of awareness and care for students with allergies.
Since September 2024 10 UK schools have received our prestigious award and we thank all of them for their commitment to keeping students with allergies safe.
If you work in a school or have school-aged children, 2025 could be the year your school drastically improves its allergy policies and procedures. Please get in touch to find out more about our AllergyWise® training and one-to-one sessions.
