Tracey Dunn, our Education and Training Manager joined us back in February – and what a busy 4 months it’s been. Now that Tracey has settled into her role and has had time to catch her breath we thought it’d be a great time to give a little update on what Tracey has been up to…

Since joining Anaphylaxis UK, Tracey has been hard at work developing our Safer Schools Programme with new content and quizzes whilst ensuring the information is relevant and clinically up to date. And we’re delighted to share that our AllergyWise® training courses are now CPD Certified, making them a trusted and valuable resource to help make schools a safer place for those living with allergies.

Our training courses have been designed to help staff develop the secure knowledge they need to feel confident in supporting students with allergies.  We have courses for schools, early years settings and out-of-school settings including wraparound care and holiday club providers.

With so many schools thinking about the new school year starting in September, now is the perfect time to book one of our AllergyWise® training courses.

Our AllergyWise® School Award was launched back in 2023, designed to recognise the schools across the UK committed to raising whole school allergy awareness with staff and pupils. Our award is free and is a great way to demonstrate to parents and carers that the school is making itself a safer place for students with allergies.

Over the last couple of months Tracey has been looking at ways to promote this award and recognise the schools that have demonstrated their commitment to raising allergy awareness. As a result, all of the schools who successfully gain this award are now included on our website and social media channels and receive a certificate and logo for their own promotion.

Take a look at our AllergyWise® School Award webpage to find out more.

Away from the office, Tracey has been out and about visiting various schools and educational leaders. Earlier this month Tracey visited a group of Wiltshire Headteachers to talk about allergy and good allergy management in schools.  They were the first to hear about our ‘in person school visits’ where Tracey can deliver workshops for students and assemblies to raise awareness and training for staff.

Feedback from Tracey’s visits has included staff reporting more confidence in how to manage allergies in educational settings:

If you would like to know more about these visits, please get in touch with Tracey on allergywise@anaphylaxis.org.uk

You may have seen Tracey’s top tips for good allergy management in the Headteacher Update magazine, and Anaphylaxis UK has also featured in Andrew Hall Safeguarding’s weekly newsletter featuring our Safer Schools Programme and AllergyWise® training.

In partnership with FDC Training and Consultancy, Tracey has also written a guide for wraparound care settings about allergies. Contact FDC Training and Consultancy to find out more.

  • The Safer Schools Programme is continuing to develop with new resources being added termly which will continue to be free to download.
  • With the rise in the use of therapy dogs in schools we have some new guidance on this which will be published soon.
  • Also coming soon, are our new resource packs to support KS3 and  KS4 cookery lessons that will be available to download after completing our AllergyWise® for Schools training course.

With so much work going on behind the scenes, we are excited to be launching our new Education and Training Newsletter in September to keep you up to date with everything that is going on. This termly newsletter will be full of tips on managing allergies in school, as well as giving subscribers access to regular Q & A sessions led by Tracey.

Please do drop Tracey an email on allergywise@anaphylaxis.org.uk if you’d like to be added to the mailing list for this newsletter when it launches.
